About Margaret Denny
I am convinced that once we have experienced something new, we soon stop seeing it. It's as if, in the rush of everyday living, when we see the familiar, our brains label it, and dismiss it as 'that which is already known'. I have my camera to thank for teaching me just how few details I actually observe in everyday life. For instance, many times I have transferred pictures from my camera to the computer, anticipating and hoping for something remarkable. Yet what I often found amazing was the number of tiny details that had totally escaped my notice. For instance, I am just now learning to notice sunlight reflecting off the tiniest of spider webs prior to taking the picture.
The world of light and color has drawn me steadily down a path of discovery and renewal. In consciously examining my surroundings, my focus has changed drastically, so that instead of simply recording how something looks, I take joy in capturing a wash of color and light. Over time, this has resulted in my work becoming more abstract, and hopefully, images to which the viewer can respond intellectually and emotionally. By creating abstract images of things familiar to us, I hope to spark that curiosity that will cause you to pause and question what it is that you're seeing.
Unless otherwise stated, all my images are 'as shot', with no digital manipulation other than the type that would occur in a dark room, such as white balance, exposure, contrast, cropping, etc. Thanks for your interest!
